On June 6, 2017, Japanese singer-songwriter Yano Hinaki released her debut solo album, FLAC.

FLAC is your first album in eight years- what made you decide to release new music now?

I’ve been making music constantly during that time, but I guess I just felt ready to share it with the world again. I’m really proud of this album and I hope people enjoy it.

How would you describe the sound of FLAC?

It’s a bit of a mix of different styles- there’s some folk, some rock, and some electronic elements. I tried to experiment a bit and not stick to one genre.

What was the creative process like for this album?

It was actually really fun- I got to work with some great collaborators, and we just tried a lot of different things until we found something that felt right. I’m really happy with the final result.

What’s next for you?

I’m going to be touring to support the album, and I’m already working on new music. I’m just going to keep doing what I love and hopefully, people will keep enjoying it.
